Aphra Behn Died on This Date

Aphra Behn died on this date 1689. Behn was the first English professional female writer. She was a major contributor to amatory fiction, which was written for and by women. It is an early predecessor of the romance novel. Behn’s works include plays, poems, and novels including the much anthologized Oroonoko.
