Rabindranath Thakur Born on This Date

Nobel prize-winning Indian author Rabindranath Thakur born this day in 1861. Thakur, whose name is sometimes seen in the Anglicized form “Tagore,” was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. His book Gitanjali is noted for its “profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse.” He’s generally considered the outstanding creative artist of modern India.
