Britain’s Petition of Right Passed on This Date

On this date in 1628, the Petition of Right is passed; the document restricts non-Parliamentary taxation, forced billeting of soldiers, use of martial law, and imprisonment without cause. The act effectively prohibits the king from infringing on specific liberties and effectively begins the United Kingdom’s modern constitutional monarchy.
