Renaissance Man Petrarch Born on This Date

Italian poet and scholar Petrarch was born on this date in 1304. Often called the “Father of Humanism” and credited for initiating the Italian Renaissance, Petrarch’s most famous poetic work is the collection called the Canzoniere. This collection of poems, mainly written in as sonnets, are mainly about a woman named Laura, whom Petrarch may have met in April of 1327.
