“Will No One Rid Me of This Troublesome Priest?”


Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, was murdered on this date in 1170, after he  and King Henry II had experienced escalating disagreements. The incident inspired Jean Anouilh’s Becket and T.S. Eliot’s Murder in the Cathedral.
